About

Founded in the early 1920s, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is the oldest of Boston College's seven graduate and professional schools. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is made up of 16 departments and offers programs of study in the humanities, social, and natural sciences. GSAS offers the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Arts, and Master of Science. Students not seeking a degree, but interested in pursuing coursework at the graduate level, may apply for admission as a non-degree student.

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences receives approximately 2,500 applications and admits approximately 250 new students annually. Each department has its own set of requirements and faculty committees within our various departments make admission decisions.

The admissions office visits over thirty graduate school fairs and events across the country every fall.

Numerous dual degree options are offered in cooperation with the Carroll School of Management, the Boston College Law School, the Lynch School of Education, and the Graduate School of Social Work.
